  32. This is the first general beta release of the mach8/mach32 OS/2 2.1
  33. 16 bit driver. This driver can only be used with the ATI Graphics 
  34. Vantage, Graphics Ultra, 8514/A Ultra, Graphic Ultra Pro or Graphics 
  35. Ultra+ accelerator cards.
  36.  
  37. OS2 versions supported by this driver are:
  38.  
  39.     Version 1.21, 1.3, 1.31, 2.0 GA
  40.     Version 2.0GA+SP, 2.1 (October, December or March beta)
  41.  
  42.     Limitations and special install procedures for each of these
  43.     version can be found in the requirements section.

  45. The mach8/mach32 OS/2 2.1 16 bit driver allow the use of OS/2 with
  46. following resolutions 
  47.  
  48.     mach 8 (Graphics Vantage and Graphics Ultra with minimum 1Mb) :
  49.  
  50.     [640x480]           256 colors @ 60Hz ONLY !
  51.     [800x600]           256 colors
  52.     [1024x768]          256 colors
  53.  
  54.     mach 32 (Graphics Ultra+ and Graphics Ultra Pro with minimim 2Mb) :
  55.  
  56.     [640x480]           256 colors @ 60Hz ONLY !
  57.     [800x600]           256 colors
  58.     [1024x768]          256 colors
  59.     [1280x1024]         256 colors

  61. Unlike other drivers, where the user must go to a Setup and select
  62. another driver every time a resolution change is required, the ATI
  63. PM  driver is a single driver that contains all resolutions. 
  64.  
  65. Changing resolutions is as easy as editing your CONFIG.SYS file 
  66. (see Configuration Settings).
  67.  
  68. This current driver does not support Seamless Windows. ATI does plan
  69. to release a 32 bit driver that will support Seamless Windows and 
  70. 65K color modes at a later date:
  71.  
  72. If you do come across any problems, please report them as soon as
  73. possible by fax or CompuServe to the OS/2 PM beta coordinator, using
  74. the attached form.

  76. 2.0     Requirements
  77.  
  78. - ATI Accelerator Card:
  79.  
  80.     mach8:  Graphics VANTAGE, Graphics ULTRA or 8514-ULTRA with a
  81.         minimum of 1MB of memory.
  82.

  85.     mach32: GRAPHICS ULTRA PRO or GRAPHICS ULTRA+ with a minimum
  86.         of 2MB of memory.

  88. - OS/2 Presentation Manager :
  89.  
  90.     Version 1.21, 1.3, 1.31, 2.0 GA

  92.         These OS/2 versions must be installed using the VGA or 
  93.         8514/A driver (supplied with OS/2) prior to using this
  94.         driver.

  100.         These OS/2 versions must be installed using 8514/A driver
  101.         (supplied with OS/2) FIRST, PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE ATI DRIVER.
  102.         If the 8514/A driver is NOT installed prior to using this 
  103.         driver, this driver will NOT function  correctly.

  105. 3.0     Installation
  106.             
  107. To install this release, if it was downloaded from CompServe, please
  108. unpack (decompress) the distribution files onto a diskette, or to a
  109. separate directory, prior to running the INSTALL Program.
  110.  
  111. From the OS/2 DOS BOX, run the INSTALL program. Follow the instructions
  112. provided by the install program.
  113.

  116. 4.0     Contents of Distribution Diskette

  118. The following files are on the distribution diskette. The files are
  119. decompressed into the appropriate directories by the INSTALL utility.

  130. 5.0     Configuration Settings
  131.  
  132. To change resolution, please edit your CONFIG.SYS file, using the OS/2
  133. System Editor. Find and modify the "SET ATI_RES=" line.
  134.  
  135.     SET ATI_RES=640x480             (60Hz only)
  136.     SET ATI_RES=800x600
  137.     SET ATI_RES=1024x768
  138.     SET ATI_RES=1280x1024           (mach32 only)
  139.  
  140. 6.0     Errors
  141.  
  142. If a particular resolution has not been installed on your Accelerator
  143. card by the mach8/mach32 installation program, the PM driver will switch
  144. to a resolution which has been properly setup. For example if 800x600
  145. is the chosen resolution for the PM driver, but not setup in hardware,
  146. the 1024x768 resolution will be used, if available, else 640x480 will be
  147. used. When this happens, three low-pitched error tones are sounded at
  148. startup.

  150. 7.0     Reporting Problems
  151.  
  152. In order to make the mach8/mach32 OS/2 2.1 Beta Program successful,
  153. ATI needs your prompt action on the following:
  154.  
  155.     - Install and use the drivers promptly.
  156.     - Test the product for reliability, useability, and robustness.
  157.     - Complete and return the enclosed Problem Report Forms.
  158.  
  159. Although we have put much effort into the verification of this driver, 
  160. it is still pre-release software.  We strongly suggest you back up any
  161. important existing data/programs before installing or running the beta
  162. mach8/mach32 OS/2 2.1 driver.
  163.

  174. Make multiple photocopies of the form and use a separate form for each
  175. problem being reported. Please mail or fax your completed forms to us
  176. as soon as possible.

  178. The OS/2 PM beta coordinator will take complete details of problems 
  179. experienced and forward them to our Engineering development team for 
  180. testing and resolution.
